A disease that is still too little known

A disease that is still too little known

Lipedema is still associated in people’s minds with obesity or lymphoedema.

About lipedema informs about this fatty disease of the limbs, its prevalence is still poorly defined but nevertheless estimated at one woman in 10.

Its causes are discussed by specialists and range from pure heredity (2 out of 3 cases) to hormonal triggers (puberty, pregnancy, the pill, menopause).

Lipedema can also be associated with venous and/or lymphatic insufficiency.

One thing is certain, the discomfort and suffering felt by those who suffer from it are real.

The symptoms are multiple and of varying intensity :

  • Difficulty getting dressed or putting shoes on
  • Swelling
  • Heaviness
  • Almost constant pain
  • Bruises on the affected areas
  • Loss of mobility
  • Non-acceptance of your body
  • Depression
  • Weight gain
